Abstract Horrors (1931)

2015, 37 x 31 and 13 x 10 inches, inkjet and green screen acrylic on canvas

This diptych incorporates two photographs from the Vancouver Archives taken in 1931 with green screen (chroma key) paint. One photograph shows an interior view of the Vancouver Art Gallery with an accompanying inscription on the bottom referring to that time as an "era before the horrors of abstraction." The other photo was taken not far from the first, but outside near the foot of Dunlevy Street in a unemployed squatters camp known as the "jungle."
